HOMETOWN and AREA INFORMATION

Atkinson (population 1300) is located in Holt County,
which is found in north-central Nebraska.
Holt County is one of the largest counties in the state (2400 sq. miles).
Towns range in size from less than 100 up to 3500 people.

Holt County is primarily engaged in farming & ranching;
Crop Production (prairie and alfalfa hay, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, soybeans),
Beef & Pork Production Facilities; and Manufacturing.

This area is in a state of POSITIVE flux -
We're not the only new Facility in the area!
There is a Hydroponic Tomato growing plant (up and running for several years now); and construction is underway on two new Ethanol manufacturing plants - one outside of Atkinson, and the other near O'Neill. There's a brand new motel in Atkinson; a recently renovated city Swimming Pool with all the bells and whistles; and other business ventures in Holt County are continually being developed. Of course, there's also businesses which have been around for generations,
such as the Atkinson Livestock Market.


Living expenses in Holt County are significantly less than in metropolitan areas. Whether you rent or buy your home; the cost will be a pleasant surprise!
Taxes and insurance for your vehicle cost less in this rural area, too.

Although many small, rural towns have lost their hospitals,
Atkinson's West Holt Memorial Hospital recently EXPANDED -
adding on a new emergency area, reception area, and more office spaces.
There is a nice variety of Health Care Services, Churches, Leisure,
Professional, and Business services from which to choose.

Atkinson, O'Neill, and the surrounding communities offer countless benefits to residents of the area. This is a GREAT place for raising a family. The crime rate is very low; and local School Systems are top notch - boasting a great Teacher to Student ratio. Many Atkinson Students earn Scholastic Awards; or participate at state-level competitions in areas such as Speech, Drama, Music, and often Sports.

While savoring the small-town life, one can still swing over to a near-by city for extra excitement, dining, and shopping. Several really nice cities -
such as Norfolk, Grand Island, Kearney, Sioux City, and Sioux Falls -
are near enough for those wanting to make a day outing.
A little farther out there's Lincoln, Omaha and Rapid City.
